I’ve been testing with several common at-home methods for discovering my skin undertone—basically trying to find out if I lean more cool, warm, or neutral. I wanted to see which DIY test might give the most trustworthy clue, so I compared three common approaches: checking vein color, the gold vs. silver jewelry test, and using photos from my phone camera with different lighting.
For vein color, my wrists mostly show a mix of blue and green, which left me undecided whether I’m cool or warm. The jewelry test was similarly confusing; silver seemed to bring out my features better in natural light, but gold didn’t look off either, especially indoors under warmer lighting. The camera test was the oddest—depending on whether I took selfies in daylight or under a yellow lamp, the apparent undertone shifted quite a bit.
